British Columbia is burning – over 800 wildfires as of today, the largest of which is about 7500 hectares. Whole communities have been evacuated, and more are cut off completely. The mountains near my home are just a blue haze and last night, an orange moon graced the sky, all due to the smoke in the air.
The good news is that we’re supposed to get a couple days of cool weather, and maybe even some rain, which will help the fire crews. And, more help is arriving Thursday – crews from Australia and New Zealand are on route to give the current crews a rest. We’re a little anxious in our house right now because the DH’s reserve unit has been put on alert. He fought in the 2003 firestorm in Kelowna where 45,000 people were evacuated, and if things get worse, he might be sent back.
